Build The Word Using Playdough – Bou Die Woord Met Klei
Why this activity works Building words with playdough activates several parts of the brain at once: 👀 Visual – the child sees the letters✋ Tactile – the child feels and shapes the letters🧠 Motor memory – the hands help the brain remember👂 Auditory – the child hears and says the sounds This multi-sensory approach is especially powerful for early readers and children with dyslexia, because the brain learns best when movement, touch, and sound work together. Build the Word with Playdough 🧠✋
Turn spelling into a hands-on brain activity by building words with playdough!
In this fun, multi-sensory activity, children roll small playdough “snakes” and shape them into letters to physically build words. Instead of only seeing the word on paper, the child touches, forms, and moves each letter, which helps the brain remember the sounds and the spelling.
How the activity works
-
Give your child a small amount of playdough.
-
Ask them to roll thin playdough ropes with their fingers.
-
Use the ropes to shape each letter of the word.
-
Build the word one sound at a time.
-
Say the sounds together and blend the word when it is finished.
Example:
c – a – t → cat
Your child builds c, then a, then t, and finally reads the word.
